Flight MH17 shot down by a Russian Buk Missile

More than two years after the fact, the investigative team looking into the cause of the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crash concluded that it was a Buk missile brought in from Russia and returned to Russia after the incident that brought the plane down. We all knew that in 2014, but the fact that an international investigative team has no shadow of doubt cements the result. Here is the CNN report.  Here is the BBC report.

But what does this mean?  Russian backed separatists in Eastern Ukraine shot off the missile. But how do you identify the one who did it and how do you prosecute them if Russia denies any involvement?

About 100 people were linked to the cause of the catastrophe in which 298 people perished, but the chain of command has not yet been clarified. When it is, what will it show?  That Putin ordered the Buk sent in, that Putin sent the trained personnel with it, and that Putin recalled them and ordered the cover up when they realized the grave mistake his men made?

Will anyone be brought to justice?  Will Russia be held to task for a war crime against Ukraine and international civilians on board a plane? I think not. But I can be hopeful. A Dutch team is putting together evidence for a possible criminal trial. I am glad the Dutch are taking the lead. I have faith in their resolve for justice.

I haven't written for a long time as I have felt so lost in this situation. Now, I am hopeful that these people's lives lost so horrifically will in some way make a difference to the freedom of an entire nation. I am profoundly sad for all the tragic losses.

There's an interesting report released by the Moscow Times on the investigative work of a group of undercover Russian activists.

And the WSJ has suggested that Russia is protecting the hackers that are causing cybersecurity breaches in an attempt to influence the US elections.

So why wouldn't they send troops into Ukraine?
